Licensed For-Hire Drivers: The State of Maryland conducts full periodic criminal background checks. Prior to obtaining a license, drivers are finger printed, screened for state and federal criminal history and sex offender registry (any state) - which is an automatic disqualification if listed and are unable to obtain a For-Hire license.
Note: The Maryland Driver screening Standards 20.95.01.26 develops the criteria for denying a for-hire license based on a driver's criminal record, specifically prohibiting applicants with certain misdemeanor convictions involving violence against a person within a three-year period prior to their application. The Maryland Public Service Commission Transportation Division is responsible for regulating passenger for-hire licenses under these standards, which dictate how applications are reviewed and what documents are required for approval or denial.
